"Normal Citizens Fight the Power"
Energy.com interview with Annette Smith of VCE, who "explains how normal citizens (such as her) can make their voices heard
and help shape energy policy within their communities."
Our photo gallery has examples of the probable visual impacts the proposed power plants and natural gas pipeline will have on Southwestern Vermont.

VEPH/GEP in NY
On Dec 29, 1999, Glenville Energy Park, L.L.C. (GEP), a holding of
Vermont Energy Park Holdings (VEPH), filed with the NY Public Service
Commission a preliminary scoping statement for constructing a 520 MW
gas-fired, combined-cycle electric generating plant in the Scotia-Glenville Industrial Park, Schenectady County. The statement is
currently under review by the NY Departments of Public Service, of Environmental Conservation, and of Health.
VCE is closely watching this process because the outcome will affect how VEPH proceeds with their proposed Vermont
filings. VCE has been given party status to and expects to participate in these proceedings.
Are pipelines safe? Industry and the regulators say yes, absolutely. The experience of many local governments
suggests otherwise. See attorney James M. Pates' examination of pipeline
safety from a local government perspective.
On June 15, 2000 the General Accounting Office released the following report:
"Pipeline Safety: The Office of Pipeline Safety Is Changing How It Oversees the Pipeline Industry"
